Norma is an opera composed by Vincenzo Bellini. This essay is going to seek the music and dramatic aspects of the duet in Act II which is sung by characters Norma and her make dor Pollione. The opera is about a Druid High Priestess named Norma who falls in be intimate with a Roman Pollione. At this time the Romans invaded the druids and therefore Norma and Pollione are mortal enemys. They rick up having two sons which are hidden and are a secret. Pollione falls in love with Adalgisa a young tabernacle virgin who works under Norma. Therefore Pollione betrays Norma. Adalgia tells Norma about her love and realises that it cannot happen. Adalgia does not want to betray Norma and therefore rejects Pollione. Norma attempts to kill her children, simply stops because of her love for them. Instead she tells Adalgia to look after her children with Pollione, completely Adalgia wants to stay loyal to Norma and so she goes to tell Pollione to do his duty. Pollione at tempts to sneak Adalgia but is caught and is prisoner to the druids. It is in this scene which Norma is to condemn Pollione to death. tactility at the libretto the major dramatic sections would be when Pollione is first presented as the prisoner.
